Other Services

Spay and Neuter Assistance

We have various programs to assist with the spaying or neutering of your beloved pet so they don't produce unwanted litters.  In addition, there are health benefits to sterilization of your pet.  We offer spay/neuter assistance for dog and cat guardians in our community as well as assistance based on need.  All of the animals adopted from the Mission Valley Animal Shelter have been spayed/neutered.

Microchip Identification Services

You can now have your pet microchipped by the Mission Valley Animal Shelter. The microchip number is registered with the AKC Home Again program. If your animal is picked up by animal control , or is taken to an animal shelter, it will be scanned. The microchip will reveal a distinct and individual number that is then reported to the Home Again program. They have your name, address, phone number, veterinarian's name and MVAS name on record. One of the names is called and the lost animal is returned to the registered owner.

It’s a wonderful program, which is quick and relatively painless. The microchip is approximately the size of a grain of rice. It is inserted under the skin at the base of the neck and shoulder blades. It is made of an inert material that does not affect the animal in any way. Registration takes approximately 6 to 8 weeks. Your pet is identified for the rest of his/her life.

MVAS charges $25/animal.
